PADDLING THE RAPIDS, SETTING THE STAGE FOR SUCCESSION - PORTLAND
Just as effective leadership is a critical component of successful organizations, planned and unplanned departures are an inevitable part of organizational and professional life cycles. They can be fraught with risk as well as great potential. Are you willing and ready to make these transitions valuable and successful for all parties? Join this lively, generative, and hands-on three-session workshop focused on all aspects of succession. Leave with confidence in your understanding, plans to implement, and new tools for shaping 'success' with succession.
Session 1, April 14: Legacy: looking beyond your tenure; success while engaged; planning for a satisfying ending; a vibrant next chapter; addressing traps and mixed messages; public acknowledgments and intentional celebration; and planning for successful completion of your legacy
Session 2, April 21: Planned transitions and emergency succession: being prepared for unplanned temporary and/or permanent sudden departures; preparing staff and board; Executive Transition Management; the Prepare, Pivot, Thrive model; paying attention to the transition period; understanding the funders perspective; maintaining key relationships; use of an Interim; when to use consultants; and the importance of closure
Session 3, April 28: Building leader-full organizations: strategic leadership development; who is up next; focusing strategic goals on building internal leadership; developing and attracting talent; getting the board to step up; understanding the funders perspective; and celebrating capacity
Dates: Thursdays, April 14, 21, 28; 9AM - noon
Cost: $250 for the series or $100 per session, if registering for separate sessions. Limited to 15 participants. PADDLING THE RAPIDS, PEER CONSULTATION GROUPS FOR EXECUTIVE DIRS of nonprofits are planned to begin in the Fall.
- Greater Portland area, Paddling the Rapids will begin November 16. The first session will be 3-7PM; the remaining seven sessions will be scheduled with the participants. Location will be announced.
- Greater Bangor area,Paddling the Rapids will begin October 28. The first session will be 3-7PM; the remaining seven sessions will be scheduled with the participants. Location will be announced.
- Midcoast Maine, Paddling the Rapids will begin November 3.The first session will be 3-7PM; the remaining seven sessions will be scheduled with the participants. Location will be announced.
If there is not a location convenient to you, we will start a group in another area with your help. Contact us for a consultation. Each group will meet monthly for 4-hours over the course of eight sessions.
The cost is $750 – a $150 deposit will reserve a place for you. Each group is limited to eight participants.

PEER CONSULTATION GROUPS FOR FIRST-TIME EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS. We recognize the unique needs of first-time executive directors – this group will be focused on you steeping into your leadership position with confidence, knowledge and access to resources.
Groups will meet monthly for four sessions of three hours each. In addition you will receive a 30-minute executive coaching session. Benefits of participation: a confidential container for exploring sensitive issues, cohort of other first-time executive directors, connection with experienced executives, a detailed self-care plan, access to a skills, resource, and strategy banks, and on-call consultation.
The cost is $300 - a $150 deposit will reserve a place for you. Each group is limited to six participants.
PEER CONSULTATION GROUPS FOR SENIOR MANAGERS, VOLUNTEER ADMINISTRATORS and others with supervisory responsibility. We recognize the leadership responsibilities of those in senior positions. This group will focus on how to help people set priorities, learning coaching practices for the workplace, skills for feedback and supervision, accountability that works, as well as time to focus on issues participants bring to the group.
Groups will meet monthly for four sessions of three-hours each. In addition you will receive a 30-minute executive coaching session.
The cost is $300 - a $150 deposit will reserve a place for you. Each group is limited to six participants.

BOARD CHAIR CONSULTATION GROUPS.
Board chairs are volunteers with significant responsibility for the oversight, stewardship, and planning for the sustainability of their nonprofit. Meet with other board chairs in a facilitated and confidential forum to expand your knowledge about your role, build a toolkit of resources to maximize your effectiveness, and discuss issues of relevance. Each session will use a combination of best practice presentation, discussion, peer consultations and case study inquiry. SHIFTING BALANCE. Often our professional lives require our attention to be diffused in so many directions that our personal and professional goals get lost. These facilitated groups will be limited to between 4 and 6 participants and focus on what it is that you want. Over the course of five sessions, participants will commit to identify and taking action on several goals that are critically important to them but are continuously are overlooked. Sessions 1-4 will be focused on setting intention, identify what values we are wanting to honor, and identifying a goal(s) that will move us in the desired direction. Action planning, accountability, and support will be key components.
The first four meetings will occur every other week for two hours. The fifth and final session will be scheduled a month later for check-in, peer support, accountability, and tune–ups. Is there something that you have been wanting to move forward in your life?
